Deputies Arrest Man After Early Morning Chase In Lake Elsinore

LAKE ELSINORE (CBSLA.com) — Riverside County sheriff's deputies arrested a man following following a car and foot chase early Sunday morning in Lake Elsinore, authorities said.

Jonathan Iniguez, 23, of Riverside, was driving a 2005 Toyota Corolla that was swerving between lanes when deputies encountered him near Collier Avenue and Hunco Way, Sheriff's Department officials said. He refused to pull over after officers flashed their lights, Sgt. Linda Maria Hughes said in a statement, and a chase began.

Iniguez drove the wrong way down a street and also failed to obey several stop signs downtown, according to Hughes' statement.

After Iniguez lost control of the car and crashed into a fire hydrant in front of Round Up Liquor & Grocery on Palomar Street, near Mission Trail, he fled on foot while a passenger remained in the vehicle, Hughes said.

Deputies eventually caught the suspect on Shay Lane. Iniguez complained of pain and was taken to a hospital before being jailed at the Southwest Detention Center.

Iniguez's charges include driving under the influence, driving on a suspended license and suspicion of reckless driving, and he is being held on $100,000 bond.
