Egyptian Student Who Posted Donald Trump Threat Agrees To Voluntarily Leave US

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com/AP) — A deportation hearing was held Friday for a 23-year-old Egyptian man who posted a threatening message directed at GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump on Facebook.

According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, Emadeldin Elsayed has agreed to voluntarily leave the U.S. by July 5.

Elsayed's lawyer told Judge Kevin Riley that he may seek another bond hearing for Elsayed because he believes the detention is illegal.

On Feb. 3, Elsayed says he was so angered by Trump's statements regarding preventing Muslims from visiting the U.S. that he posted an article about it on Facebook. Elsayed said "he wouldn't mind serving a life sentence for killing this guy and the whole world would thank him for it."

Officials said he was enrolled as a student at Universal Air Academy in El Monte when he posted the threatening message.

The owner of the flight academy expelled Elsayed and gave officials the authority to kick him out of the country as that was the basis for his visa.

The following day, Secret Service agents questioned Elsayed at his home and searched his electronic devices.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials issued a statement that reads in part: "Mr. Elsayed was taken into custody Feb. 12 by officers with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement ...for allegedly violating the terms of his admission to the United States. Mr. Elsayed remains in ICE custody pending the outcome of immigration proceedings before the Executive Office for Immigration Review."

According to Elsayed's attorney, he has been in jail for the past three weeks.
