Democrat Kamala Harris Tops Fundraising, Spending In Senate Race

LOS ANGELES (AP) — California U.S. Senate candidate Kamala Harris is leading her rivals in fundraising by a wide margin, but she's spending the cash nearly as fast as it's coming in.

Records show the front-running Democrat and state attorney general spent about $3 of every $4 she received from July through September.

Overall, Harris raised about $1.8 million during the period, but spent about $1.4 million.

Her fundraising total was far more than other candidates combined.

Her closest rival, fellow Democrat Loretta Sanchez, pulled in $400,000 in contributions for the 2016 race.

The Orange County congresswoman also loaned her campaign $300,000.

Among Republicans, Silicon Valley lawyer Duf Sundheim raised $240,000. San Diego County Assemblyman Rocky Chavez had less than $10,000 in the bank.

Harris has topped the field in early polling.
