Delta Passengers Face Major Delays Following Computer Outage

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Delta Air Lines passengers experienced heavy delays Monday after a system-wide computer outage halted flights across the world.

The computer issue was reported around 2:30 a.m., according to the FAA.

The airline issued a written statement that reads in part: "A power outage in Atlanta has impacted Delta computer systems and operations worldwide, resulting in flight delays. Large-scale cancellations are expected today. All flights enroute are operating normally. We are aware that flight status systems, including airport screens, are incorrectly showing flights on time. We apologize to customers who are affected by this issue, and our teams are working to resolve the problem as quickly as possible."

Airport officials at Los Angeles International Airport began checking in passengers shortly before 5 a.m., KNX 1070's Margaret Carrero reported.

CBS2's Joy Benedict reported travelers waiting in line to check their bags backed up to Terminal 6 for most of the morning.

Those who have been affected by the incident may file for a refund online.

Travelers have been advised to check the status of their flights while the issue is being addressed.

At this time, 400 flights have been canceled. Two of the flights were scheduled to depart from LAX.
