Police Investigate Death Of Infant In Long Beach

LONG BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Detectives Wednesday investigated the circumstances surrounding the death of a baby whose decomposing body was found in Long Beach.

According to the Long Beach Police Department, a group of teenagers discovered the body Tuesday afternoon in a residential area at the corner of 67th Street and Gardenia Avenue.

Upon their arrival, authorities determined the body was decomposing among cardboard boxes and debris. Officers believe the baby could have been left there for quite some time.

The gender and age of the victim has not been determined. It also remains unclear if the baby was born alive.

The coroner's office will determine the cause of death.

Authorities are working to identify the parents of the victim.

At this time, no arrests have been made.

The investigation is ongoing.
