2 Men Fatally Shot In Compton; Suspect At Large

COMPTON (CBSLA.com) — Homicide detectives Saturday investigated the circumstances surrounding the shooting deaths of two adult men in Compton.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, deputies were sent around 10:50 p.m. Friday to the 300 block of West Raymond Street for report of a gunshot victim.

Upon their arrival, authorities located two Hispanic men suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to their upper torsos.

Paramedics pronounced one of the victims dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld pending family notification.

The second victim was transported to a hospital in critical condition.

"Witnesses told deputies that the suspect approached the two victims standing on the sidewalk," Deputy Trina Schrader said. "They engaged in a brief conversation before the suspect produced a handgun and shot the victims."

Detectives described the suspect as a Hispanic man. He fled from the scene westbound on Raymond Street.
