Deadly Shooting Investigation Underway In Sylmar

SYLMAR (CBSLA.com) — Police Wednesday searched for a gunman who fatally shot a man in Sylmar.

The shooting unfolded around 1:30 a.m. near the intersection of Dronfield Avenue and Sayre Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Upon their arrival, authorities located a man believed to be in his early 20s suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Paramedics transported the victim to a hospital in critical condition where he succumbed to his injuries during surgery.

The victim's identity is being withheld pending family notification.

A preliminary investigation revealed a Hispanic man believed to be in his early 20s shot the victim behind an apartment complex in a parking lot area.

The suspect, who was last seen wearing a dark colored sweatshirt, fled from the scene following the deadly shooting.

Detectives believe the shooting is gang-related.

The motive for the incident remains under investigation.
