Gunman Wanted For Murder In Palmdale

PALMDALE (CBSLA.com) — Homicide detectives Tuesday investigated the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of a man in Palmdale.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, deputies responded to the 3500 block of East Avenue R around 3:44 p.m. Monday for report of an assault with a deadly weapon.

Upon their arrival, authorities located a male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld pending family notification.

A preliminary investigation revealed the suspect visited his ex-girlfriend at her home and became upset that another man was there.

The suspect, Gonzalo Apatiga Lopez, 52, brandished a handgun and shot the victim multiple times in the upper torso.

Detectives described Lopez as a Hispanic man who has a crooked nose, stands 5-foot-6 tall and weighs 150 pounds.

He was last seen driving a black 2002 Lincoln Navigator that has a California license plate that reads: "7B89645."

Lopez is considered to be armed and dangerous.
