Deadly Shooting Investigation Underway Near LA River In Bell Gardens

BELL GARDENS (CBSLA.com) — Homicide detectives Tuesday investigated the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of a man in Bell Gardens.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, the shooting unfolded just before 6:30 p.m. Monday on a dirt bicycle path that runs along the Los Angeles River, just west of the Long Beach Freeway and north of Firestone Boulevard.

Upon their arrival, paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld pending family notification.

A preliminary investigation revealed a gunman approached and shot the victim while he rode his bicycle in the area.

Detectives described the suspect as an adult man who wore dark clothing and ran into an awaiting vehicle on the Long Beach Freeway, which drove southbound from the area.

The incident appears to be gang-related, deputies said.

The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
