Innocent Bystander Killed By Shooter Near Jurupa Hills Country Club

RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) — An innocent bystander was fatally shot Thursday near Jurupa Hills Country Club.

Officers were sent around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday to the 6100 block of Moraga Avenue for report of an assault with a deadly weapon, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

Upon their arrival, authorities located a man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound in his vehicle.

Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene. He was later identified as 71-year-old Ronald Francis Sr. Capotosto.

CBS2's Jasmine Viel reported Capotosto appears to have been caught in the crossfire of a shooting incident involving a younger man.

A preliminary investigation revealed he was stopped at a stop sign when a suspect drove up in a separate vehicle and opened fire on another man standing on the street.

The younger man was shot in the leg. Paramedics transported him to a hospital. He is expected to survive his injuries.

Detectives said the suspect fled from the scene in a dark colored sedan.

Capotosto's wife, Betty, told Viel her husband left to pick up pool supplies but never returned home.

Police plan to review security video from a nearby home.

The incident remains under investigation.
