Pedestrian Fatally Struck By Vehicle In South LA; Hit-And-Run Driver Arrested

SOUTH LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Police Friday were investigating the circumstances surrounding a deadly hit-and-run collision that took place in South Los Angeles.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers were sent around 11:30 p.m. Thursday to the area of Slauson Avenue and Gramercy Place for report of a traffic collision.

Upon their arrival, authorities located a man lying in the street.

Paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene. He is believed to be in his 30s, but the coroner's office is withholding his identity pending family notification.

A preliminary investigation revealed a driver struck the man in a crosswalk and fled from the scene.

Around 4:00 a.m. Friday, police located the suspect's vehicle in Inglewood. A person of interest has been taken into custody.

Detectives are working to determine if drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash.

Police said speed has been ruled as a factor in what caused the collision.
