Deadly Garden Grove Accident Blamed On Driver Being Under Influence Of Drugs

GARDEN GROVE (CBSLA.com)  —  A deadly accident Saturday afternoon is being blamed on the driver being under the influence on drugs.

At 3:10 p.m., officers were dispatched to a single-car crash at Valley View Street, just south of Belgrave Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers determined a maroon 2007 Saturn Ion going south on Valley View veered out of control, hit the curb and slammed into an electrical pole. The pole was snapped in half on impact.

A female driver and male passenger were taken from the vehicle and transported to the UCI Medical Center by Garden Grove Fire.

The male passenger, a white 34-year-old Buena Park resident, was declared dead at the hospital.

The driver, a white 31-year-old resident of Stanton, suffered a broken leg. She is listed in stable condition.

After a medical evaluation, police said the driver was arrested for driving under the influence.
