Deadly Crash In Ontario Blamed On Street Racing

ONTARIO (CBSLA.com) —  A deadly accident in Ontario Wednesday afternoon is being blamed on street racing.

Police said they talked to the other driver involved who said the two knew each other.

Officials did not release the name of the deceased pending notification of his next of kin.

The victim lost control of his vehicle, hit two different trees and had to be extricated out of the vehicle, authorities said.

Reporting from the scene, CBS2's Brittney Hopper says the victim's car also overturned after hitting a second tree at a very high rate of speed. The force of that impact caused the tree to uproot.

The crash occurred in the 3000 block of E. Cedar Street around 3 p.m., officials said.

Hopper spoke to the victim's co-worker who had spoken to him moments before the crash.

"I talked to him like ten minutes prior to the accident. He drove right past me," said Jose Salazar, "it's just sad."

People who work in the area are not surprised people are racing there.

"These industrial places," says Daniel Villabos, "they're like the spots where people want to come to race."

At this writing, the other driver was still being questioned and no arrests have been announced.
