Crowds Protest Death Of 25-Year-Old Killed During Police Encounter

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Demonstrators Friday gathered outside an LAPD station to protest the death of Ezell Ford, the man who died this week during an encounter with police.

The protest in front of the LAPD Newton Division marked the second demonstration this week in Ford's honor. On Thursday, crowds held a peaceful march.

Ford, 24, died Monday after an officer-involved shooting. At the time of the shooting, Ford was unarmed, and according to witnesses, was face-down.

While relatives say Ford was mentally challenged and was following police orders before the shooting, a law enforcement official told CBS2/KCAL9 that Ford tried to grab the officer's gun during the physical altercation.

Autopsy results have not been released.
