CAMARILLO (CBSLA.com) — Firefighters Thursday rescued a raccoon snared in a drain pipe in Camarillo, officials said.

A resident had reported hearing noises on Sunday in the 200 block of Calle La Granada, according to Ventura County Fire officials.

On Thursday, authorities discovered the raccoon had crawled approximately a quarter-mile into a 6-inch drain pipe.

Firefighters, along with the help of Animal Services personnel, safely extricated the animal just before 11:50 a.m., Capt. Mike Lindbery said.

It wasn't immediately clear how the raccoon made its way into the pipe.
