Mandatory Evacuation Orders Lifted For Areas East Of Silverado Canyon Fire
SILVERADO CANYON (CBSLA.com/AP) — Mandatory evacuation orders were lifted Sunday evening for areas east of the Silverado Canyon fire.
Residents east of 30311 Silverardo Canyon Road may access their homes using Silverado Canyon Road, authorities said.
Officials said Silverado Canyon Road remains closed at Santiago Canyon Road for non-residents.
The wildfire in Orange County was 20 percent contained on Sunday.
More than 1,000 firefighters have been dispatched to the firefight, some of whom were called to dig up containment lines, according to KNX 1070's Ed Mertz.
The 2 ½ square mile blaze broke out Friday morning in Silverado Canyon.
Six firefighters have suffered minor injuries, many of them heat-related as temperatures reach triple-digits, said Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Steve Concialdi.
"It's extremely rugged terrain and another extremely hot day," Concialdi said.
A heat wave is expected to last through Tuesday in Southern California, and a smoke advisory was in effect for parts of Riverside and Orange counties.
The Cleveland National Forest sprawls over the rugged peaks of the Santa Ana Mountains, straddling the Orange and Riverside county line southeast of Los Angeles.
