Crews Contain 20-Acre Brush Fire Near Mt. Baldy

MT. BALDY (CBSLA.com) — Crews on Wednesday contained a 20-acre brush fire that burned on a mountain in the Mt. Baldy area.

Just after 8 a.m. on Tuesday, firefighters were sent to Shinn Road for report of a vegetation fire burning in the National Angeles Forest, according to the National Forest Service.

Upon their arrival, crews located flames burning uphill about a quarter-mile off of a mountain in Stoddard Canyon.

"Things that we faced last night into the morning were very, very rugged, steep terrain," said Capt. Rob Thompson. "This weekend we're facing temperatures about 108 to 110 degrees. Its going to be rough."

No structures were threatened by the fire. Evacuations were not ordered for residents in the area.

Firefighters said a separate brush fire burned in the same area in June.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
