Crews Battling Fast-Moving Brush Fire In Moreno Valley

MORENO VALLEY (CBSLA.com) — Firefighters were battling a fast-moving brush fire that broke out on a Moreno Valley hillside late Wednesday night.

The fire was reported near Merwin Street and Alessandro Boulevard around 8:30 p.m. and had spread to 175 acres by around 11 p.m. according to CAL FIRE Riverside officials.

The flames appeared to be moving away from homes in the area and toward Lake Perris, where a campground was evacuated, officials said.

Residents, nevertheless, were unnerved.

"It really scares me just thinking that the fire can be this intense," Justin Read said.

It was not immediately clear how the fire was started.
