Fire Destroys 6 Businesses In San Pedro; LAFD Captain Hospitalized

SAN PEDRO (CBSLA.com) — Crews extinguished a structure fire Monday that destroyed six businesses in San Pedro.

Shortly after 4 a.m., firefighters were sent to the 500 block of South Pacific Avenue at 6th Street, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Upon their arrival, crews located smoke billowing from a one-story row of businesses.

It took 146 firefighters more than two hours to contain the flames.

A fire captain has been hospitalized in fair condition for treatment of exertion, officials said. He is expected to be okay.

A second ambulance transported the owner of a clothing store who was distraught and began feeling ill.

Arson investigators were called to assist at the scene.

At this time, an estimate of damage done to the building has not been released.

The fire remains under investigation.
