Crews Extinguish Fire At Auto Dismantling Yard In Lincoln Heights
LINCOLN HEIGHTS (CBSLA.com) — Crews Tuesday night battled a fire at an auto dismantling yard in Lincoln Heights.
The blaze started around 8 p.m. at ASAP Auto Wrecking in the 1800 block of Hancock Street.
KCAL9's Brittney Hopper reports loud explosions could be heard for miles. Fire officials said the explosions were caused when water hit titanium from car engines.
Neighbors said it was so loud, they didn't know whether to run outside or stay indoors.
"At first it sounded like gunshots, so I went out. You hear little ringing softly. That's when you really heard an explosion going off. You could see the transformer blowing up and everything just caught on fire from there on," neighbor Jorge Berrato said.
Barrels containing pickles and brine were also affected by the flames.
Some streets were shut down during the firefight, which lasted nearly an hour.
No one was injured.
