Crews Rescue 3 People, Dog Stuck Along LA River
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com/AP) — Firefighters rescued three people Tuesday - including at least one person stuck in a tree - along the Los Angeles River, authorities said.
Crews responded to the location along the river at San Fernando and Elm in Cypress Park around 7 a.m., according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart.
Swift-water rescue crews plucked two adult males and a dog from a tree on the east side of the Los Angeles River off Taylor Yard as the river swelled from its usual trickle to a raging torrent.
One of the victims was transported in unknown condition.
A short time later, authorities headed upriver near the northbound 2 Freeway at Fletcher Drive in Atwater Village to rescue of a second adult.
Firefighters in Pomona also pulled out two people from the San Jose Creek near the San Gabriel (605) Freeway in Industry around 10 a.m., according to an LAFD spokesperson. The patient was being evaluated at the scene.
