Several Injured When Anaheim Police Pursuit Ends In 10-Car Pile-Up

ANAHEIM (CBSLA.com) — A dramatic police chase through Anaheim on Thursday ended in a 10-car pile-up.

Officers first got the call around 4 p.m. that a "suspicious" man was lurking around a car wash in the 700 block of North Brookhurst, according to Anaheim police.

"The individual was looking into vehicle windows as if he was casing to steal something," Sgt. Daron Wyatt said.

When officers arrived the driver jumped into a blue-and-white Chevy van and drove off.

The man resisted their attempts to initiate a traffic stop, fleeing at speeds that reached 80 mph.

He jumped the center median of an Anaheim street and drove the wrong way into oncoming traffic.

The driver struck a car and drove northbound on Euclid Street near the 5 Freeway.

Police say he then struck a large Ford SUV and crashed into nine additional vehicles.

His van caught fire and he tried to run. But he didn't get far.

Around 4:30 p.m., officers caught up to the suspect. He and several motorists were taken to hospitals with minor injuries.

The suspect faces felony charges, including possible hit-and-run and evading police. Police have not yet released his identity.
