Crash on 101 Freeway in Hollywood leaves one pedestrian dead, one hospitalized

One pedestrian was killed and another injured after they were hit by a car on the 101 Freeway in Hollywood, police said.

It happened a little before 2:40 a.m. on northbound lanes of the freeway near Universal Studios Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol. 

Officers arrived and found two pedestrians in the road who had been hit by a Jeep Wrangler. The driver remained at the scene to cooperate with their investigation. 

Paramedics declared one of the victims dead at the scene. The second was rushed to a hospital with major injuries. Neither has been identified. 

A SigAlert was issued for the northbound side of the freeway until just after 5:40 a.m., CHP said. 

It's unclear why the pedestrians were in the road at the time of the crash.
