Crash On 101 Freeway Dumps Ceramic Debris Onto 170 Freeway In North Hollywood

NORTH HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — A truck crash dumped ceramic debris over three lanes of a San Fernando Valley freeway just as Tuesday's heavy morning commute got underway.

The crash first happened at 5:14 a.m. Tuesday, at the northbound Hollywood (170) Freeway and the Ventura (101) Freeway. A truck on the 101 Freeway hit a center divider and its load spilled onto the 170 Freeway below.

The load apparently included several ceramic and glass items, much of which shattered. At least one other driver was hit in the eye with glass debris and had to pull over.

The crash prompted two SigAlerts – one for two left lanes of the northbound 101 transition to the westbound 101, where the truck slammed into the center divider initially, and a second for all lanes of the northbound 170 Freeway just north of Moorpark, except the carpool lane, where the debris fell.

Both SigAlerts were canceled by 8:20 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
