County Marriage Officials Prepare For Valentine's Day Rush

NORWALK (CBSLA.com) — Los Angeles County officials are preparing for a busy day of civil ceremonies for Valentine's Day.

About 400 couples have made appointments for wedding ceremonies at the county's seven Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk's offices, according to spokeswoman Regina Ip. No more appointments are available, but couples can show up unannounced to get a license and be married on Valentine's Day, if they don't mind waiting.

According to Ip, there are normally about 30 wedding ceremonies performed each day at the main county clerk's office in Norwalk, 12400 Imperial Highway. So far for Friday, 100 are already scheduled.

Instead of the normal one chapel set up at the Norwalk office, the county will have six on Valentine's Day, with ceremonies being held every 15 minutes between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Couples can begin obtaining marriage licenses at 8 a.m.
