Costco Customer Reportedly Punched In Face In Incident Over Sample Of Waffle With Nutella

SEPT. 22 UPDATE: The 78-year-old Costco shopper spoke for the first time about the ordeal exclusively to CBS2 on Tuesday night. Meanwhile, authorities say the man accused in the incident has been charged with elder abuse.

BURBANK (CBSLA.com) — A 78-year-old man was recovering Monday night after reportedly being punched in the face at a Costco Wholesale store in Burbank.

The incident apparently unfolded when the victim told another shopper to take just one Eggo waffle with Nutella from the sample cart.

Burbank Police Department Officer Cindy Guillen reportedly told The Burbank Leader that's when the man was punched in the face.

He was hospitalized with a cut above his eye, Guillen said.

The suspect, described as a 24-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of elder abuse. The publication reports that he is due in court this week.
