Costa Mesa Motorcyclist, 30, Killed After Running Red Light

COSTA MESA (CBSLA.com)  —  Authorities said a Costa Mesa motorcyclist was killed on Christmas morning after he ran a red light.

Jonathan Vantrease, 30, reportedly crashed his motorcycle into an SUV, according to police.

He was identified by the Orange County Coroner's office.

The crash was reported at 1:15 a.m. at Harbor Boulevard and 19th Street, said Costa Mesa Police Sgt. Patrick Wessel.

Vantrease was pronounced dead at the scene just before 1:30, the coroner said.

The victim was going south on Harbor Boulevard and the SUV driver was westbound on 19th Street when they collided, Wessel said.

The SUV driver remained at the scene and was not cited.

Officials said the investigation is on-going.
