Coroner To Run Toxicology Exam On UC Berkeley Student Killed On 10 Freeway

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The Coroner Tuesday will run a toxicology exam on the missing UC Berkeley student found dead on a local freeway.

Eloi Vasquez, 19, was hit by a vehicle early Saturday morning on the 10 Freeway near the Vermont Avenue exit, officials confirmed Monday.

Police say Vasquez was struck while running across the eastbound lanes. The driver remained at the scene and told authorities there was no way to avoid him.

The accident occurred about an hour after friends say Vasquez left a USC fraternity party to take a walk.

His mother said he had called a friend telling her he was lost and in trouble. When he left the party, Vasquez did not have his wallet, money or identification on him.

The Coroner identified his body Monday and contacted police.

Vasquez was a freshman on UC Berkeley's soccer team.

It was unclear when toxicology results would be available.
