HESPERIA (CBSLA.com) — A 31-year-old convicted felon remained in custody Thursday on suspicion of possessing firearms at his home in Hesperia.

On April 6, deputies were sent to the 15000 block of Mauna Loa Street for report of a child custody issue at the home, according to the Hesperia Police Department.

A preliminary investigation revealed evidence that subsequently led to a search warrant served around 4:35 p.m. Wednesday, at the home of Gary Hoyle.

During their search, detectives located three rifles, two shotguns, three semi-automatic pistols and about 7,500 rounds of ammunition.

According to police, one of the semi-automatic pistols was loaded and in reach of children in the household.

However, none of the recovered weapons appeared to be stolen, officers added.

Hoyle was subsequently arrested, and is being held at HDDC.

Police explained they plan to submit a report to the District Attorney's Office regarding possible child endangerment by another member of the household.
