City Officials Kick Off 'Bike Week LA'

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority officially kicked off "Bike Week LA" Monday.

Metro officials were joined at 10 a.m. by LADOT, Caltrans, Metrolink, Good Samaritan Hospital, CicLAvia, L.A. County Bicycle Coalition and C.I.C.L.E. to announce ways to make LA county more bike-friendly.

Announcements included a new Metro bike campaign, bicycle safety education classes, bicycle hubs, triple bike racks on Metro buses, free rides all week for bicyclists on Metrolink, new Caltrans statewide Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan, a city bikeway update from LADOT as well as new data from the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition's Operation Firefly Program.

Week-long activities will also be held to encourage more Angelinos to try bicycling as an emissions-free sustainable form of transportation.
