CHP Stumbles Into Marijuana Farm After Car Crashes Into Building

HUNTINGTON PARK (AP) — Authorities chasing a driver in a Los Angeles suburb got a surprise when his car crashed into a building that turned out to contain a marijuana farm.

The Los Angeles Times says California Highway Patrol officers tried to pull over a man who'd been speeding and driving erratically around 1 a.m. Friday in Huntington Park.

The Volkswagen Jetta hit a median, went airborne and crashed into a 10,000-square-foot commercial building.

CHP Officer Robert Meyer says while firefighters were freeing the driver from the car, CHP officers went into the building, where they found 700 to 800 marijuana plants.

The driver was taken to a hospital with major injuries and arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and recklessly evading police.

The pot growers haven't been found.
