Stolen Taxi Suspect Arrested After 4-Hour Pursuit

SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — A suspect was taken into custody early Friday morning after a long, and sometimes slow, pursuit that started in Orange County.

The chase began in Santa Ana shortly after 11 p.m. when the suspect took off in a stolen taxi near the corner of 1st and Flower streets.

The driver drove north on the Golden State (5) Freeway when CHP officers failed to administer a PIT maneuver around 11:20 p.m. in Anaheim.

The pursuit continued on several other freeways including the northbound 605, westbound 60 and the 710 in East Los Angeles, officials said. At one point, he also dangerously sped through a construction zone on the 5 Freeway.

After numerous attempts to stop him, the chase finally came to an end around 3:10 a.m. on the 14 Freeway in Lancaster just south of the Avenue D exit.

No further suspect description was given.
