Shooting investigation causes massive backup on SR-14 near Palmdale; 2 hospitalized

A lengthy shooting investigation created a massive traffic backup on the northbound 14 Freeway near Palmdale on Saturday.

California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert at 5:20 p.m. to warn drivers of the investigation.The closure stretched from the Angeles Forest Highway to Palmdale Boulevard. 

Though information was scarce Saturday evening, detectives disclosed on Sunday that they were investigating a shooting that happened at around 4:05 p.m. 

Two women were shot in the incident, both of whom sustained non-life-threatening gunshot wounds but were hospitalized for treatment. 

CHP did not provide any information on a suspect or the circumstances leading up to the shooting. 

SkyCAL flew over the scene of the stoppage, showing miles of cars waiting in the traffic jam created by the investigation. 

All lanes reopened just after 10:50 p.m.
