Child Killed, 4 Hurt In Rollover Crash Near Point Mugu

POINT MUGU (CBSLA.com) — A child was killed and four others injured in a crash near Point Mugu Wednesday night.

The accident happened shortly after 7 p.m. on Pacific Coast Highway near Las Posas Road when a 2002 Ford Mustang slammed into a tree and flipped over, according to California Highway Patrol.

The car only had four seatbelts and officials believe the 7-year-old child was not restrained, suffering fatal injuries.

His mother and driver of the car, 34-year-old Latoya Najar of Camarillo, was arrested after she "exhibited signs of intoxication at the collision scene," the CHP said.

She was booked at the Ventura County Jail on felony DUI charges.

Najar is being held on $50,000 bail and was scheduled to make her first court appearance Friday afternoon.

The two other passengers, a 12-year-old boy and a 33-year-old woman, suffered broken bones and were transported to Ventura County Medical Center for treatment.
