The crash occurred at 9:06 a.m. on the westbound 118 Freeway at Madera Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Fire officials say the students were on a charter bus from Horizon Elementary School in Bakersfield. They were scheduled to tour the Reagan Library Tuesday.

Thirty-three children and seven adults were on board. Four people were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries, according to Ventura County Fire Chief Brian McGrath.

Aerial footage appeared to show the bus up an embankment. Ventura County Fire Department crews deployed ladders to get passengers off the bus.

"Other than the few that were transported...we loaded them up on another charter bus and they're finishing their field trip to the Ronald Reagan Library," McGrath said.

All westbound lanes of the 118 Freeway were shut down until around noon.
