Chargers Take NT Carrethers In 5th Round Of Draft

SAN DIEGO (AP) — The San Diego Chargers have picked Arkansas State nose tackle Ryan Carrethers in the fifth round of the NFL draft.

He is the third defensive player taken in four picks by general manager Tom Telesco. The Chargers got Carrethers with the 25th pick in the fifth round, the 165th selection overall.

The Chargers didn't have a fourth-round pick after trading it to Miami to move up in the second round Friday to take Georgia Tech outside linebacker Jeremiah Attaochu.

Carrethers' last play in college was blocking the potential tying field goal as time expired to preserve the Red Wolves' 23-20 win against Ball State in the GoDaddy Bowl.

The fifth-year senior had four sacks last year.
