Chain-Reaction Crash At Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre Leaves 9 Spectators Hurt

IRVINE (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say nine people were transported to the hospital after a chain-reaction crash at the Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre.

The incident happened shortly after 6:45 p.m. Saturday and just before the Pacific Symphony was scheduled to perform.

Investigators described the alleged driver as elderly and said he was traveling in the area, when he lost control and slammed into a fence, tree, another vehicle, and several pedestrians.

The vehicle then struck a police cruiser, which was unoccupied, forcing it onto a grass area where spectators were picnicking.

Other individuals were then struck.

In all, nine people were taken to the hospital. Of the injured, four were in serious condition.

It remains unclear what caused the elderly driver to lose control. The incident is being investigated.

No arrests have been made and no citations were issued.
