Caught On Video: Marine Corps Veteran Beaten, Robbed By 2 Men

SAN BERNARDINO (CBSLA.com) — A Marine Corps veteran was severely beaten and robbed by two men at a gas station in San Bernardino last month, authorities said.

The attack, which was captured on camera, happened around 4:40 a.m. June 24 at 1108 W. Highland Ave.

John Faust, 78, was getting gas on his way to work when he was approached by two men.

Faust said he remembers the men, who appeared to have handguns, asking him for money before they punched him in the face, knocked him out cold and ripped his jeans to grab his wallet.

"They were looking strictly for cash ... 'cause they didn't bother anything in the truck. They didn't take the truck," Faust said.

Faust was left with a fractured skull, a blood clot to his brain and a broken nose.

He spent four days in the hospital, two of which were in the ICU.

Faust, who has been married for more than 20 years and has great-grandchildren, said he knows he could have fared a lot worse.

"[I'm] very angry. But I'm not going to let it destroy me or destroy us. We'll work through it," he said.

Anyone with information on the crime was asked to call (909) 384-5626.
