Caught On Camera: Costa Mesa Police Save Teen Teetering On Side Of 55 Freeway Overpass

COSTA MESA (CBSLA.com) — Costa Mesa police Tuesday saved a teenager who was teetering on the side of the 55 Freeway overpass.

Authorities said a 14-year-old girl walked on the outside of the fence on the freeway overpass around 6:30 p.m.

The girl was drunk, popping pills and losing consciousness, according to CBS2's Stacey Butler.

"She was making her way to the center median. She was about 30 feet above the freeway," Costa Mesa police Lt. Greg Scott said.

Unable to talk her down, officers and firefighters struggled to cut through the fence before she fell to the freeway below.

Moments later, officers reached through a six-inch gap and pulled the teen to safety.

The girl's mom arrived on the scene.

The teen was taken to the hospital.
