Car Wash Raising Funds For Critically Injured San Bernardino Officer

SAN BERNARDINO (CBSLA.com) — A fundraiser was being held Saturday to help raise money for San Bernardino Police Ofcr. Gabriel Garcia who was shot in the head last month while responding to a disturbance call.

Proceeds from the unity car wash at Juan Pollo at 1258 West 5th Street in San Bernardino were expected to benefit Garcia and his family.

The event was set to conclude at 5 p.m.

As of Thursday, Garcia was reported to be showing signs of improvement and was regaining consciousness, San Bernardino Police Chief Jarrod Burguan said.

The Aug. 22, shooting left the 31-year-old with a brain injury and in a medically induced coma. Garcia was shot once in the head after he and his partner approached a group of people.

The suspected gunman was killed in a shooting that same day. Three other people have been charged with attempted murder.
