Car Slams Into Power Pole In Malibu; 'Major' Traffic Delays Expected

MALIBU (CBSLA.com) — Authorities on Saturday continued to work on a power pole that was knocked down by an alleged hit-and-run driver in Malibu.

The Los Angeles Sheriff's Department (LASD) said in a written statement that the accident occurred on Malibu Canyon Road, approximately two miles north of the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH).

The LASD says the vehicle struck a power pole, which subsequently caused the signal lights to go out along the PCH. According to Southern California Edison, 3363 customers were also without power as of 8:45 a.m.

Deputies said the southbound lanes at Malibu Canyon Road and Mulholland Drive are closed as well as the northbound lanes of Malibu Canyon Road and Seaver Drive.

Drivers were warned to expect major traffic delays in Malibu and authorities reported that Malibu Canyon Road was expected to be closed for the next 12 hours. For traffic updates, listen to KNX1070.
