Car Slams Into Building Following Multi-Vehicle Crash, 8 Injured

PERRIS (CBSLA) — Eight people were injured following a multi-vehicle crash that left one car inside of a building in Perris Tuesday evening.

The call for the accident came in at 5:04 p.m. in the 200 block of 4th Street. When deputies arrived, they confirmed that several vehicles were involved in the crash and one collided with an adjacent building.

According to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, a 23-year-old man stole a construction company truck from workers who left it running at the end of the day while they were getting ready to head home from a construction site. Workers then chased the stolen truck a block down the road where it struck a vehicle at an intersection.

The truck then headed toward the shopping center when one of the workers was able to jump into the vehicle in an attempt to regain control of the vehicle. In the ensuing struggle, the gas pedal was pushed down on accident and the truck accelerated into the building — pushing another vehicle inside of a restaurant.

Eight people suffered moderate injuries, but only two were taken to the hospital. The man accused of stealing the truck was taken into custody.

The owner of the restaurant said that luckily it was a slow day with only a few customers inside at the time of the crash.

The area of 4th Street and Perris Boulevard was shut down during the cleanup and investigation.
