Car-Sized Sinkhole Reported In Burbank Following Water Main Break

BURBANK (CBSLA.com) — A water main break in Burbank Sunday afternoon caused a car-sized sinkhole that shut down an intersection, police said.

The break was at Winona Avenue and Brighton Street, Burbank police Sgt. Darin Ryburn said.

After the eight-inch pipe broke early Sunday afternoon, officials estimated it would take from 24-48  hours to have the break capped and the hole repaired.

But by 10 p.m., KCAL9's Cristy Fajardo said the hole was completely filled in and the intersection was reopened to traffic.

Fajardo also said the cause of the break was not determined but officials believed it might have been due to extreme temperatures of late.
