Car Crash Knocks Out Power To Thousands In Anaheim

ANAHEIM (CBSLA.com) — A car crashed into a power pole in Anaheim Tuesday, knocking out power to thousands of customers.

The crash happened at the intersection of Savanna Street and Knott Avenue about 2:40 a.m., Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Adam Quinones said. The vehicle knocked down the power pole and cut power to at least a one-half mile area surrounding the crash site.

The downed pole knocked out power to 3,521 customers, according to the city's Ruth Ruiz. Only 347 customers remained without power by about 1:30 p.m., she said.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation. The driver was not immediately cited.

Residents without air conditioning were encouraged to visit "cooling centers" at public libraries and various community centers in the city, Ruiz said.
