Captain Of San Diego Smuggling Boat Wreck Faces Federal Charges

SAN DIEGO (CBSLA) - The alleged captain of an overloaded boat that sank off the coast of San Diego on May 2, 2021, killing three people and 33 others being pulled from the water, is now facing federal charges.

Prosecutors believe that Antonio Hurtado, a US citizen, was smuggling illegal immigrants when the deadly wreck occurred.

Hurtado is also charged with assault for allegedly kneeing a Border Patrol Agent in the face as he was being arrested.
