Canyon Country Man, 23, Pleads No Contest To Accusation He Lured 15-Year-Old For Sex

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com)  —  Authorities say a Canyon Country man pleaded no contest Thursday to a charge of meeting a 15-year-old girl to have sex after luring her through a social media app.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced said Michael Anthony Byrne, 23, entered the plea to one felony count of meeting a minor for lewd purposes.

Byrne will face a sentence of five years of formal probation and lifetime sex registration on May 7 in Los Angeles County Superior Court, according to Deputy District Attorney Nathan Bartos.

In August 2014, Byrne met the victim through an app that allows anonymous social media interactions, Bartos said.

While using the app, the defendant pretended to be a girl and then told the victim she should meet a "friend" who also was the defendant, the prosecutor added.
