Camarillo High School Student Arrested After Threatening School Shooting, Police Say
CAMARILLO (CBSLA.com) — A Camarillo High School student has been arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill another student in a school shooting, authorities said.
Camarillo Police Department Sgt. John Franchi says deputies responded to a call of a male juvenile threatening to fatally shoot another student and then take his own life at the school last Thursday.
Franchi said deputies contacted the victim and his parent and learned that the student, a sophomore at Camarillo, "also told the victim that he planned to shoot up the school."
Graduation ceremonies were underway as police were gathering information about the threats. Deputies at the ceremony, where thousands were in attendance, were contacted about the investigation.
The student, who has not been identified, was arrested without incident a short time later at his home, where deputies made contact with his parent.
"The suspect admitted to threatening the other student, but indicated he had no intent of carrying out the threat," Franchi said.
The teenager was booked at the Camarillo police station and cited on suspicion of making criminal threats. Police said weapons were removed from his residence and were booked into the sheriff's property room.
A Children's Intensive Response Team was contacted to conduct an evaluation of the student, who was taken for additional mental health treatment.
