Californians To 'Fall Back' An Hour As Daylight Saving Time Ends

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Authorities reminded the public to set their clocks back an hour before going to sleep on Saturday night.

Californians will "fall back" an hour at 2 a.m. on Sunday as Daylight Saving Time officially ends.

The state will return to Pacific Standard Time, which will last until March 13, 2016.

Authorities advised using this time of year to partake in the semi-annual clock-changing exercise, which includes replacing batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide detectors along with emergency flashlights.

This ritual should also include making sure each device has not passed an expiration date. Smoke detectors have a life span of about 10 years. The devices have the expiration date stamped on the back.

Alarms should be mounted high on walls, about four inches to a foot away from the ceiling. On ceilings, they should be mounted at least four inches from the nearest wall.

Smoke detectors should not be kept near windows, door or ducts where drafts could interfere with their operation.
