Californians On Way To State's New Energy Goals
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — California is already on the way to meeting Gov. Jerry Brown's goals for cutting use of climate-changing fossil fuels. That's according to reaction Tuesday by energy experts and state officials to Brown's new environmental goals.
Brown called in his inauguration speech Monday for Californians to get 50 percent of their energy from renewable sources within 15 years. He also called for the state to halve the use of petroleum by cars and trucks.
Todd Foley of the American Council on Renewable Energy industry group says projects already in the pipeline will get California to 40 percent renewable energy by 2024.
The state Air Resources Board says projects like the high-speed rail will also help. But says the state must double its use of alternative fuels to meet Brown's goals.
