California Unemployment Edges Up To 5.4 Percent

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The California Employment Development Department says the state's unemployment rate edged up to 5.4 percent in June.

The rate derived from a federal survey of 5,500 California households was 5.2 percent in May and 6.2 percent in June 2015.

The department said Friday, however, that a separate survey of 58,000 businesses shows California's nonfarm payroll jobs increased by 40,300 in June.
